"I would describe my experience as eye opening to my own trauma (it landed differently than I expected) and how I can work to manage what is in my control but also how I can learn to understand others through a more compassionate lens. In my own journey its about learning and having compassion but also drawing that line that says, the space and time I was holding for you, I now hold for my own healing journey. For me too, I guess its about forgiving myself and having more self compassion. Putting myself first which is a very unsettling place to be."
"I have actually described it to friends already and have explained it as welcoming, safe and well structured. I very much appreciate the manual and the amount of effort that went into it. I enjoy evidence based researched (as well as quotes), so it feels like a what we are doing is not just "airy fairy hippie" type stuff, but understanding the basis of trauma and what it does to the body and what yoga could do to facilitate healing and empowering oneself. The mind body connection in an intuitive yet scientific way. Artful and scientific. The perfect blend."
"I would describe this experience as a mix of psychoeducation and embodiment practices that facilitate a deeper understanding of trauma and how this shows up differently for each individual, in how they see the world, relate to their environment, and relate to others. I would also describe this training as integrative for people like myself who tend to intellectualize these concepts without truly "feeling" the experience. This course provides tools to navigate the waves of my own trauma, which in turn will help me grow professionally and enhance the regulating space I provide for my clients"
"Lauren is the most supportive and informative teacher. She creates a safe place even before the first weekend starts so you can come into the experience feeling confident and quickly the group feels like a tribe. The manual is beautifully organized and Lauren sets up multiple resources throughout the room to ensure everyone can do everything to regulate themselves. It's a group of fellow nerds who I get to geek out with about the newest sciences as well as learn more about myself and continue my own growth. It's so empowering to be able to add names to feelings and behaviours."
"I am very glad I got the opportunity to take this program. Lauren is an amazing mentor/teacher and provides so much context to all the advanced concepts she covers. I found it most beneficial to learn about sequencing or theming with a trauma / polyvagal lens. Yet despite that, the most valuable aspect is gaining Lauren as a mentor."
"It was very well organized. The first part of the course sometimes the class seemed to get off topic in side conversations, which while interesting took time away from learning the material, but by the end there was more permeates to the conversations and a suggestion of taking other personal conversations on breaks which allowed for an easier flow. I would have like a little bit more time working on how to theme a class or sequencing for different things but it’s hard when there’s limited amount of time and not everyone there is a yoga teacher. I still felt I gained a lot of knowledge in the area during the class."
"I feel much more confident in my ability to apply trauma-informed principles into my practice. I have already begun to integrate these, both in my yoga classes and 1:1 work with clients affected by substance use. I've started discussing with my manager how we can implement TIY groups for those seeking further rehabilitation after completing residential treatment. I am so so so excited to be bringing this knowledge into the health authority and make a difference."
"Being part of this course last weekend was a mix of fun, calming and emotional (the good kind). I appreciated learning about trauma and everything you taught me in the weekend one as I found it easy to relate to myself, my family, my friends and other people. So I would say this course is so important and worth it. It's an amazing course as this learning will not only help my personal growth but also help me to heal and give a better understanding of helping people who need my help."
